Meet the Crew: Katie Funk and Yohannes Berhane, new staff

We’re excited to introduce you to our two newest staff members: Katie Funk and Yohannes Berhane! They both joined our fantastic team of outdoor specialists this past fall to help us execute our Saturday adventures.

"I have always loved connecting with nature as a way to recharge -- I'm a big fan of hiking, camping and kayaking," Katie said. She's also excited to revisit other outdoor activities as she helps the Crew connect city teens with nature and each other.

In addition to working with us on Saturdays, Katie also works for La Soupe, a nonprofit that "rescues" perishable food and transforms it into soup and meals to feed those who are food insecure.

Her role is to develop the organization's training program for similar nonprofits in other cities.

Katie holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond and worked at mentoring centers and summer camps during her college years. She lives in Madisonville with a friend and her golden retriever, Sadie.

Becoming an outdoor specialist for the Crew is one of two new roles for Yohannes, who also recently became director of development for the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition. He previously served at associate area director for Young Life.

The Columbus native and Ohio University grad is an avid climber and mountain biker.

"I'm passionate about seeing people experience the outdoors for the first time," he said.

When he's not working or outdoors, Yohannes is always down for a game of Catan.

Welcome, Katie and Yohannes! We're so glad you're part of our Crew!
