A night of wild, a year of wonder

Earlier this month, I ventured from my desk and development duties to join 70 Explorer teens for a high ropes adventure at Camp Campbell Gard. Even after a decade with the Crew, I continue to be amazed by the excitement and energy of a Saturday adventure – the wonder never ceases.

In just one Saturday adventure, I witnessed moments of triumph, teamwork, courage and calm.

Oyler students competed against their club advisors to see who could sink the most arrows on the archery range.

A group built a campfire and roasted their first s’more over it.

Outdoor Specialist Victoria tackled the high ropes course with a cadre of teens, offering words of encouragement as together they ascended 20 … 30 … 40 feet high.

Two friends sat together by the Great Miami River, simply enjoying the peace and quiet.

Moments like these are common at Adventure Crew; our programming staff and volunteers witness them weekly. And yet, they’re incredibly precious – and only possible because of your steadfast support.

On October 15, Adventure Crew will gather at Memorial Hall for our annual fall fundraiser, Summits & Horizons. This year’s Wildly Optimistic program will include a keynote by canoeist Neal Moore about his 22-month paddling expedition from Oregon to New York. It’s also your opportunity to hear directly from Crew teens about how nature has challenged, uplifted and defined them. At the end of the program, we’ll ask you to join us in keeping transformative experiences in nature accessible to city teens.

I hope you’ll join us for Summits & Horizons – and witness the wonder yourself.

Can’t be with us on October 15? You can still contribute to equitable access to nature. Visit our website or email me (miriam@adventurecrew.org) to learn more about ways to support.

Happy trails!
